About Katherine
Life comes with many challenges and sometimes even great pain, yet I believe in the power of shared experience and application of research based interventions to help you feel balanced, empowered, and capable of moving forward toward your goals.
I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) with over 20 years of experience. I earned a Bachelors degree in Social Work from Michigan State University and a Masters of Social Work from The University of Michigan. Early in my career I worked locally in foster care, residential substance abuse services, and mental health community case management - all of which have provided me a deep knowledge of the mental health and social service systems.
I have found my true calling to be individual and group therapy services, particularly with individuals and family systems affected by symptoms of Personality Disorders. I spent 10 years as the program manager for one of the largest outpatient Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) programs in Michigan and worked primarily as a DBT Therapist for 17 years. I have completed extensive continuing education in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (through Behavioral Tech LLC) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Much of my focus is working with adults and adolescents experiencing self harm and suicide ideation. However, I welcome and enjoy working with a variety of symptoms including: depression, anxiety, trauma, co-occurring disorders, stage of life changes, grief, stress, and anger management.
As a therapist I am known among my colleagues and clients for being straight forward, authentic, and down to earth - but also deeply validating. My hope is to guide my clients through life's challenges by leveraging my many years of experience and employing research based practice, so that they can feel empowered to strive for and reach their mental health goals.
